Best Practices for School Budgeting


DESCRIPTION:

New and seasoned professionals seek information on linking budgets from a short term to long-term focus with academic goals.  The five-part micro course will examine best practices for working collaboratively with stakeholders outside the business office through the framework for smarter school spending.  Additionally, practical models and best practices for budget data and forecasting will be reviewed including dashboards and other easy to understand formats for your board and public. This micro course contains five nano modules. Each module is worth 0.2 CPE credits.

CREDITS:

You will earn 0.2 credits for each of the 5 nano learning modules in this Micro Learning Course. Certificates will be issued individually upon successful completion of each nano module.

Nano Module 1: Overview of Best Practices in School Budgeting and Plan and Prepare
Description:

This module reviews the best practices used in school budget planning. The process for developing a budget plan will be demonstrated. Risks associated with creating strategic plans that do not coincide with the budget will also be discussed. 0.2 CPE Credits

Nano Module 2: How to Set Instructional Priorities
Description:

This module discusses the process for creating goals associated with improving academic achievement. It also examines ways to manage expectations; and provides an overview the process for distributing the goals to schools. Set0.2 CPE Credits

Nano Module 3: Pay for Priorities
Description:

This module reviews the components of a Cost of Service Analysis and explains the process for determining an Academic Return on Investment (A-ROI). It will also discuss the process for evaluating and prioritizing expenditures to enact instructional priorities. 0.2 CPE Credits

Nano Module 4: Implementing a Financial Strategic Plan
Description:

This module examines the process for developing a Financial Strategic Plan.  Key steps in strategic planning are reviewed including the use of forecasting for long-term financial planning, developing an allocation method for distributing resources to school sites, and developing an effective budget presentation. 0.2 CPE Credits

Nano Module 5: Keys to a Successful Remote Audit
Description:

This module reviews the essential components of monitoring and also examines how to analyze the elements, how to determine the level of detail that will reviewed, roles and responsibilities, and communicating the analysis to stakeholders. 0.2 CPE Credits
